Initial feedback about Briar...

 Having posted the design of Briar in the peer feedback channel I had some positive responses and also some constructive criticism which was very useful. Rahul mentioned that at first glance she looked older than 16 and this was due to the proportions being incorrect (he said a 16 year-old girl would only be approx 5 heads tall). I appreciated this feedback but found it a bit confusing as I have a book which states that adolescents are approx 7 to 7 and-a-half heads tall but I took the point on board and went back and measured my character more accurately, she was around 6 and-a-half heads high.

I adjusted the height in Procreate to about 5 and-a-half heads which did look better...



 Below I've placed them side by side for comparison. I'll let Eve decided which she prefers as it's her project.

Either way this was still a very insightful thing to do and will definitely be something I'll consider carefully when designing characters in the future.

Rahul also questioned the time period the story is set in based on the combination of different styles of clothes. This was something Eve admitted she'd not thought about seeing as it's a fantasy novel but again for me this was a good point to consider for future projects. 

Lastly, Rahul suggested the inclusion of a scar on her face to help add character. Although I can see where he's coming from I felt that this can sometimes be a bit cliched but appreciate the thoughtful feedback.

Next upfor this character I'll be designing her other outfit, an evening gown.

'Mastering lighting and shading' - a new online course and illustration...

After I reworked the facial features in the Briar turnaround Kieran suggested I also look into different types of lighting and try to improve the coloured Briar pose by creating a scene and adding some directional light.  This led me to watch another online course by 21 Draw... This was fantastic and gave me a whole new workflow to learn. I also researched some characters from Star Wars for reference... ...then went on to design the illustration at the top of the page.

Adding colour to the Keith Haring mural animation...

  Above is a colour test for how the final animated clip of the Keith Haring mural will look. This was made using both Procreate and Photoshop.  In Procreate I created a new layer below the one above and using the Script brush I selected colours from the photo of the original mural that Keith Haring painted in the Palladium, the image is below... As you can see I only used the top half of the mural in this design. With regards to the colour I started by selecting a pink/purple and drawing an outline for the sections that were going to be filled with this colour. I then selected the nearest shade of blue and did the same again and so on with each colour until I'd created a fully interlocked outline. Before doing this I decided I'd join up each section of colour because I had to take into consideration the fact the characters were jumping into shot one at a time and none of them are obviously in their final positions to start with and I didn't want areas of white in the backg...
