Rough sketches for student collaboration...

Now I've decided I want to go into concept art, character design and illustration I thought it would be a good idea to see if any of my fellow students would like to collaborate. Back at the start of the course Eve approached me about doing some character design for her project but at the time I was planning to go in to 3D animation as an animator. After watching her pitch for her main project I messaged her to see if she was still looking for some help. We discussed her ideas which involved her main project and also a personal project she's been working on for some time.

To start with she asked me if I'd like to do a concept piece of the main room where the animation will be taking place in her primary project. She sent me a rough sketch of the layout including the furniture and objects such as sculpture and canvasses and gave me an indication of the style and theme she's looking for.

The film is set in a modern house based in California. She wants vibrant colours and a crisp graphic finish. I'm still working on the designs but to start with I thought I'd sketch out the individual elements such as table and chairs. Eve's research is very thorough and her knowledge of what she wants is really clear which is great, I've started with sketching the Eames chair. These are mostly very rough but will be developed over the next couple of weeks...

Here's an example of an Eames chair I was using as reference...
