Rough designs for a Robo Samurai....

Ever since I saw the film 'The Last Samurai' many years ago I've thought it would be great fun to try designing a Samurai character, I've finally been given the opportunity. Here are two pages of very quick, rough sketches playing around with shapes and posture and the relationship between the character and his weapon...

I plan to do a lot more work on this character developing the shape of the body and head gear, I want it to be futuristic but with elements of the traditional war outfit incorporated into the design. Also want the character to feel fierce and have a battle ready mentality.

I like the design facing the front in the middle of the first sheet and the design to the right where he's holding a bow and arrow set glancing to the side, on the sheet below.

Although these designs are at a very early stage I have a clearer idea in my mind as to how I want this to develop, one major change I've decided on which will completely effect further designs is that I want to do away with his legs and have him sat on or connected to a motorized wheel.

I've collected a lot of reference images I'll be taking inspiration from as I develop this idea further...
