Fantasy collaboration with fellow student...

 The second project Eve has asked if I'd like to be involved with is to create the character designs for a story she has written about four female heroines who meet on a journey and work together to save their land. Each have their own weapon and animal companion and come from very different backgrounds. Again the research and vision Eve has is very in depth and clear which is brilliant for me as this gives me a better understanding of what she's looking for.

The first character she has asked me to design is called Briar, a sixteen year old witch with a Royal ancestry and a travelling companion who is a platypus called Edgar. I'm really excited to be involved with this and I'm finding it really enjoyable to work with somebody else's ideas and vision. Here are the first rough sketches I've drawn of Briar, mainly trying to play with her posture and show her wearing her travelling outfit of hooded jacket, leather trousers and boots. 


I'm going to continue to experiment with different poses and other outfits as well as get a better idea of her facial appearance looking at some different expressions and draw up a turn around, then start to experiment with colour.

'Mastering lighting and shading' - a new online course and illustration...

After I reworked the facial features in the Briar turnaround Kieran suggested I also look into different types of lighting and try to improve the coloured Briar pose by creating a scene and adding some directional light.  This led me to watch another online course by 21 Draw... This was fantastic and gave me a whole new workflow to learn. I also researched some characters from Star Wars for reference... ...then went on to design the illustration at the top of the page.

Adding colour to the Keith Haring mural animation...

  Above is a colour test for how the final animated clip of the Keith Haring mural will look. This was made using both Procreate and Photoshop.  In Procreate I created a new layer below the one above and using the Script brush I selected colours from the photo of the original mural that Keith Haring painted in the Palladium, the image is below... As you can see I only used the top half of the mural in this design. With regards to the colour I started by selecting a pink/purple and drawing an outline for the sections that were going to be filled with this colour. I then selected the nearest shade of blue and did the same again and so on with each colour until I'd created a fully interlocked outline. Before doing this I decided I'd join up each section of colour because I had to take into consideration the fact the characters were jumping into shot one at a time and none of them are obviously in their final positions to start with and I didn't want areas of white in the backg...
