The Hacienda inspired storyboard sequence...

 The second part of the story board I've designed and put together for the group project is a sequence inspired by an invitation for the legendary Manchester based club The Hacienda.



Above is the inspiration for the following piece, here's the rough story board...



In this series of frames the black stripes enter the shot from the bottom left however on our updated story board there was an inconsistency with the flow of the animation from both the previous and the following scene so we decided to reverse it and have them starting at the top right corner the progressing out of the bottom left. 

Again I used Procreate on my iPad to put these together, I'll talk about the process I used in a future post. Once I'd finished in Procreate I saved JPG's and imported them into After Effects and made my first animatic using that software. I'll post the results tomorrow. Here's the finished sequence...

Black and white life studies...

As well as practicing my knowledge of value through using a value scale while life drawing, Kieran suggested I try making some life studies in just black and white again to work on my use/placement of lights and darks.  Once again I used the New Masters Academy YouTube channel for reference to produce the following digital charcoal drawings... Both of the above images were drawn in an hour, thirty minutes each. I spent forty-five minutes on each of the three below. I feel I'm starting to really benefit from these exercises and improving in small ways with each new drawing. Just for fun here are some 'arty' shots of the above images created in Procreate...

Adapting my new work flow on one last illustration...

Looking back through my work from the MSc, I would have liked to complete more coloured artwork as well as having touched on some simple animation however the time just didn't allow for it. I did find just enough time though to watch this tutorial on animation assist in Procreate... I then started work on the design at the top of the page, which is a still image taken from a sequence. I plan to finish a full colour version of this animated clip once the course is finished.

My final portfolio...

For the final version of my portfolio I had a very in-depth critique with Kieran, he suggested I change the format from portrait to landscape so it would be more appealing on laptops and desktop. The font was also changed and the title pages removed to make it more concise and streamlined.  We also talked about the presentation and layout of the pages and reduced the number of characters initially shown.
